It’s a great idea but didn’t work for me,
I saw this idea in a magazine was so excited to make a personal lamp for a gift. But the cord just hung down awkwardly and the whole thing was wobbly. I had high hopes and it was a bit of a disappointment.

This lamp kit is of great quality but did not fit the wine jug I wanted to use it for. The cork insert was just too small to fit the bottle opening. I am wondering if it would fit any wine jug opening perfectly as it is quite small. I did manage to use it by using some filler around the cork itself but would have preferred it the insert had fit without help.

Works well, and the cork/lamp fits most bottles, vodka or beer included. Keep in mind the smaller the bulb the better, particularly if you will not be using a lamp shade. I use mine as a bar lamp in a small vodka bottle, with a stained glass 25 watt bulb or 7 watt for softer lighting – no shade. The socket holds medium based bulbs – worth noting.
